Those are separate trades on paper. On a real property they are usually the same project: an old patio comes out, the grade changes, a wall holds the new elevation, lines run underground, and the finished surface ties into the house and the pool.

Outdoor construction is decided by the site. Before materials are chosen, the important questions are where water goes, how deep the base needs to be, what is already buried, how equipment reaches the area, and what the space is actually used for.

When demolition, excavation, masonry and plumbing are handled by one contractor, the sequence can be planned once. Underground lines go in before the base is compacted. Wall drainage is installed before backfill. Pool lines are pressure-checked before the pool deck is set.
